spk_0 They did lose to Arkansas last year. What does that mean for them this year? Should Tennessee be happy or bitter about me going to have us play against Penn State that is today's stuff question.

spk_0 Fellow in state school Memphis who is number 23 in the AP pole and number 25 in the coaches pole also just for the record UNLV North Texas also are both undefeated neither of them are in the polls to this point.

spk_0 Tennessee is number 12 in both polls and a 13 and a half point favorite against Arkansas.

spk_0 Well, I do think it means that honestly from my perspective, it's as people don't know what's in the Tennessee yet.

spk_0 You know the win the win at Mississippi State doesn't look as good anymore with the way Mississippi State got dragged by Texas A&M over the weekend and that was one of the many predictions I got wrong after bragging about having a good week last two Saturdays ago.

spk_0 I don't know if you guys are going to know when I do my predictions like in the week I had a bad week on Saturday, but I think a lot of us did.

spk_0 But Tennessee being number 12. I don't necessarily think they're disrespected. I do think they belong ahead of Georgia Tech Emissary. Those two teams have played literally nobody.

spk_0 They have the easiest schedule of any undefeated team in the SEC or big 10 maybe Oregon. My only criticism would be Oregon. Oregon shouldn't be all the way up at number two.

spk_0 There only win is over Penn State. That was an overtime and now we know that Penn State is maybe not be that good maybe not be that good school.

spk_0 So when you take that into account. Yeah, you could criticize Oregon, but one of the things that are ahead of them.

spk_0 I mean Georgia beat Tennessee Alabama beat Georgia. There's no way you could not put both of them ahead of Tennessee at this moment LSU.

spk_0 You can make the case that Tennessee should be ahead of LSU.

spk_0 LSU's one signature win on the year is at Clemson.

spk_0 Tennessee has two wins that are better than that, including Syracuse at a neutral site who beat the break soft Clemson and Mississippi State on the road.

spk_0 And as of right now, I think we could honestly safely say Mississippi State is probably a better school than Clemson.

spk_0 So when you take those things into account. Yeah, I mean, I know Clemson did blow out North Carolina and their last outing and the dabbo billbell check bowl that should have been on Cartoon Network.

spk_0 But at the same time, you could also say that Tennessee has a better resume overall than Clemson.

spk_0 Now theoretically, I guess technically you would say that LSU has a better loss because Ole Miss is undefeated and Georgia has a loss at home.

spk_0 But guys, come on. Like if Georgia and Ole Miss are playing on a neutral field right now, you're probably favoring Georgia, aren't you?

spk_0 Of course you are. So when you take that into account. Okay, I could go with LSU at number 11, but I don't think any of the ones are egregious.

spk_0 The only ones that I think the best case Tennessee has to be ahead of anybody are Oregon and Texas Tech.

spk_0 Texas Tech and Oregon have played horrendous schedules to this point.

spk_0 And there is a debate over whether or not either of them should be in the top 10 Texas Tech to be fair did beat Utah on the road and Utah is 4-1.

spk_0 That is their signature win. And then they then they also did blow out Houston who is 4-1.

spk_0 So when you take that into account, you could be fair to Texas Tech and say that given the fact that they have two wins over undefeated teams on the road who are undefeated at the time they played them, there's an argument for them.

spk_0 But overall when you actually break down their overall conglomerate schedule, not just quality teams they have played or undefeated teams they played, it's actually not that good.

spk_0 But I think number 12 is reasonable for Tennessee. And I don't think there's disrespect that they're down at number 12.

spk_0 Now when it comes to their ranking against Arkansas, it's 13 and a half.

spk_0 I got to be honest, I'm a little shocked. I thought it'd be higher.

spk_0 I thought it'd be higher. I thought Vegas would turn against Arkansas because of the firing of Sam Pittman and the firing of the three of the multiple defensive staff members by Bobby Patrino.

spk_0 And the fact that they got blown out by Notre Dame, the fact that they're traveling too noxical, the fact that Tennessee is coming off a buy.

spk_0 I really thought that they were going to put that line somewhere at 21, 25 points, honestly, because I could see Tennessee winning by that many.

spk_0 I think one of the things that held them back and made it just within two touchdowns is the unknown with Bobby Patrino and Vegas probably has the same belief I do and that many people do the Bobby Patrino is going to throw the kitchen sink out in this one.

spk_0 The fact that Tennessee lost Arkansas last year.

spk_0 And the fact that of the upsets that happened over the weekend, Penn State losing the UCLA and Florida, I mean Texas losing the Florida.

spk_0 I think those two things together put a lot of, they put a lot of pressure on Vegas. Now what's lost on that is this games in Knoxville.

spk_0 So you could take Tennessee's lost Arkansas last year. You take Texas is lost to Florida last week. You take, you see Penn State's lost to UCLA last week.

spk_0 All those things together lead Vegas to say, oh, this is one of those games that can be possible upset.

spk_0 And when you throw in the Bobby Patrino, Rico, that makes it more likely. Let's keep the line within 14. The problem is this games in Knoxville.

spk_0 These upsets have all happened that I just named were at the other teams place. Josh Hyple doesn't lose at home unless he's facing Georgia.

spk_0 That's pretty well documented. Since November of 2021, Josh Hyple is undefeated at home against every single team except Georgia.

spk_0 And take out Georgia. He's perfect. He's lost three games to Georgia since November of 2021. That's been an issue.

spk_0 So if I'm a better, I probably would take the line. I would probably take Tennessee to cover right now. I'll give my take later in the week. Obviously, but I am shocked that Vegas didn't go.

spk_0 I am shocked that Vegas didn't go all in on on Tennessee being favored by maybe 30 point 20, 21, 25 points. And yeah, maybe even 30 points.

spk_0 I mean, I'm just being honest. I'm a little shocked at that overall. I feel like Tennessee to be fair.

spk_0 Should be much, much more heavily favored coming off a buy. So I would take that into account. So I'll ask this poll question for you guys.

spk_0 What is bigger disrespect for Tennessee? What is disrespectful to Tennessee? And we'll say being number 12 in both polls.

spk_0 Only 13.5 point favorite versus hogs. Both or neither. Both or neither.

spk_0 You guys go ahead and vote on that. That is the poll question up. What is disrespectful to Tennessee being number 12 in both polls. Only 13.5 point favorites versus hogs. Both or neither.

spk_0 I'm going to go with only 13.5 point favorites versus walls because I do think being only a 13.5 point favorite against against against the hogs.

spk_0 I think they should be favored by more than that. And so when you take that into account, I think that's a lot more disrespectful overall.

spk_0 The item says a good point. I should compare UCLA to Arkansas. UCLA lost her head coach and coordinator before a big game. That is true. And Arkansas significantly better than UCLA.

spk_0 Taylor greens a heck of a quarterback. But Adam one of the big again, the difference is this games in Knoxville. And I don't think and Tennessee is not dealing with the hangover.

spk_0 They're not coming off just a brutal, brutal loss like Penn State is last week. So when you take those two things into account, I think that it's a little bit different.

spk_0 Okay, so when you think about that, I would say Tennessee, I would say Tennessee should be a 20 to 21 point favorite.

spk_0 Now Colton says why would there be disrespect Tennessee hasn't even blown out the mid teams they've played. Well, Colton to be fair, they played two mid teams.

spk_0 Mrs. Zubi stayed in Syracuse both were away from home. They haven't played a mid team at home yet. And a mid team at home, you would expect them to be able to blow them out in the hype away where he just lights up the scoreboard.

spk_0 That's at least what he traditionally does. So again, we'll have to see also when you factor in the fact that here's the other part about the line. Then this is what might be scary.

spk_0 Does this mean Jamal McCoy is not going to be ready to go this week? This doesn't mean that David Hobbs won't be ready to go.

spk_0 Those are big issues to for Tennessee. Jamal McCoy and David Hobbs can't go Tennessee could have some issues with this Arkansas offense given what Bob Bertrino does and let's go through history.

spk_0 Arkansas has a weird winning streak versus Tennessee as a matter of fact. I don't know if you guys know this.

spk_0 I think Tennessee's last win over Arkansas was 2007. I'm pulling it up now, but Tennessee has lost to Arkansas four times in a row.

spk_0 They have a four game losing streak to Arkansas. That is really weird. That is a weird losing streak for Tennessee to have. They lost Arkansas last year and an upset.

spk_0 They lost in 2020 during the COVID year, 24 to 13. They lost in 2015, 24 to 20 and then they lost in 2011, 49 to seven. But here's the crazier part.

spk_0 Tennessee was favored in three of those games. They've been favored in the last three games against Arkansas.

spk_0 And they've lost all of them. This is a really weird losing streak. Tennessee has to Arkansas. I mean, you know, Tennessee's always had a weird history with Arkansas.

spk_0 We know the 98s stumble and thumble game with Clint Sterner, the 99 game where they Arkansas got revenge and upset them in Fayetteville after Tennessee.

spk_0 I just got into number two in the BCS 92 Arkansas first year in the SEC Tennessee's undefeated. They're in the top five. They lose at home after Arkansas scores a touchdown.

spk_0 We're harvesting on sidekick kicks again. When you feel well, that was the beginning of the end for Johnny majors. Arkansas is a scary, scary football team.

spk_0 They out of the blue shock you know, last time Tennessee faced Arkansas and Bobby Patrino let him 2011. They're worse lost Arkansas ever. They lost 49 to seven.

spk_0 And Tennessee had the brilliant amazing Derek Julius head coach during that time. So, you know, kind of shocking that they would lose a game to Bobby Patrino and Arkansas.

spk_0 Derek Julius to smart for that. I'm just kidding.

By the way, where was that running when he played at Tennessee and he threw for 166 yards, which didn't seem like a lot but he was 17 to 24 for 166 yards and his total QBR.

spk_0 He had a 97.4 total QBR while he rushed for 128 yards and through for 166 yards, UCLA had 446 total yards. They also forced a turnover in the game. And out of the blue, Nico E. Maliava comes through with offensive coordinator Jerry Newhazel.

spk_0 So Interim head coach Tim Skipper who by the way now has as many ones can stop 10 team as James Franklin does his entire career Penn State just worth noting.

spk_0 That is and I actually agree with the I think I saw that I missed the message board real quick, but it feels it who said this. I apologize. Oh Derek, you're right.

spk_0 Football on every level is almost twilight zone. Honestly, you're right Derek. It feels like a twilight zone situation with what happened over the weekend. It was crazy for that to happen.

spk_0 And by the way, I'll point this out. This is going to be more common in college football as time goes on because truth be told, there's more parity. So even the worst teams like UCLA can pull an upset against the better teams like Penn State.

spk_0 And by the way, you want to talk twilight zone just throw it as an aside, it reached the NFL to my Titans. I'm so mad we won that game yesterday against Arizona. I didn't want to win. I want to keep losing because I want our coach fired. I want everybody gone. I want the house clean and winning that game in a game we didn't deserve to win is going to make everybody stay longer.

spk_0 I'm bitter about that. That's just my aside rant. But in this one, how should Tennessee fans feel? I think you got to feel happy. Penn State losing helps Tennessee and Nico is continually helped Tennessee since he left Tennessee. He has truth be told he helped Tennessee get Joey Aguilar.

spk_0 He saved Tennessee money by leaving or any blue out Penn State is Nico. The only out of the biggest gift to Tennessee ever. I mean, that's kind of a question. It's kind of wild how things are working out at this point today.

spk_0 Eric engage was incredibly efficient through the year he was 17 to 22 for 165 yards and area and foster had 17 carries for 98 yards material hearty at 14 carries for 68 yards or Marcus cocker had 17 yards the team as a whole

spk_0 Tennessee season was done it was left in the tank they were one and two they just lost a cowling gotten blown up by Florida Florida had Tim TV was defending national champs they look like they were unbeatable at that point Tennessee scored a very underwhelming victory against Arkansas State the next week to get to two and two but then they went into the buy two and two and during the buy week Florida out of nowhere got shocked at home by Albert losing 20 to 17 which opened the door for Tennessee to be able to win the SEC East because Georgia had already

spk_0 lost that year to South Carolina so Tennessee had moved ahead of Georgia by beating Georgia's it's both teams since Georgia had two losses Florida meanwhile had one loss and another loss would put Tennessee control their own destiny to win the SEC East and on the day Tennessee beat Georgia Florida that night lost a second straight game to LSU on the road which put Tennessee in control of its own destiny in the SEC East which nobody would have thought possible during that time it was a loss of the track that was in the

spk_0 was an incredibly epic day for Tennessee football.

spk_0 Also, just big point on this to make sure

spk_0 South Carolina was technically went into that game.

spk_0 South Carolina had a loss going into that game,

spk_0 but just had one loss and Kentucky technically went into

spk_0 that day undefeated, but lost to South Carolina.

spk_0 So even on a technicality standpoint,

spk_0 They're facing a bad Arkansas team that had just lost the Texas A&M the week before.

spk_0 That it already lost the Oklahoma State that was 3 into on the year.

spk_0 Sam Pittman was all but canned.

spk_0 Tennessee goes to Arkansas though and chokes in a 19 to 14 game.

spk_0 They fell behind for.

spk_0 They fell behind 3 to nothing at halftime.

spk_0 But then they scored two touchdowns to make it 14 to 3.

spk_0 And then they let Arkansas score a touchdown, a field goal and another touchdown to win the game 19 to 14.

spk_0 It was a really bad collapse for the balls.

spk_0 It's a game they shouldn't have lost.

spk_0 They took it way too lightly.

spk_0 Will that game help Tennessee this week against Arkansas?

spk_0 And I got a little bit of history for you on this, okay?

spk_0 And I'm talking about South Carolina 2023.

spk_0 Tennessee in 2022 we've talked about the Columbia collapse.

spk_0 They lost the South Carolina 63 to 38, which cost them a spot in the college football playoff the next week.

spk_0 I mean, I'm sorry, excuse me, the next year.

spk_0 On a September 30th night, they don the black jerseys hosted South Carolina and unleashed on them beating them 41 to 20.

spk_0 And what was very clearly a revenge game revenge games are a thing for this program, particularly with Josh Hyple as head coach.

spk_0 The week after the Arkansas game in 2024 at home, they needed overtime to beat Florida because they always just struggle with Florida.

spk_0 They also lost at Alabama and Georgia at home where they were underdogs and they lost at Missouri where they were favorites, but they haven't had a chance to play Missouri again.

spk_0 So taking on a addition to account, South Carolina in 2023 and Florida in 2024 at home are the only times Tennessee has had a chance to get revenge on a team that beat them the year before despite being underdogs in the game.

spk_0 Will that help Tennessee when they face Arkansas this week coming off a bite or will they get over confident again?

spk_0 Then last year I already said will be on their mind but also again this is my big thing on it they're getting healthy guys we haven't we did you guys notice how much better Tennessee's defense was against Mississippi state just by having Jackson boy back out there and just by being able to run a bit deeper of a rotation and just with Aaron Carter's development.

spk_0 It was significantly better and by the way tie Rebans developing to us tie Reb and develop an Aaron Carter and Aaron Carter finally reaches the potential we thought he had and Jackson boy adds more depth to the defensive line that unit looked so much better than it did against Georgia.

spk_0 Yes the talent was worse but at the same time there were things they were able to do that they weren't able to do again storage a Colton hood is settling in even more he's an elite cornerback tie Redmond is developed he's better and the other big one this is underrated guys that we're not noticing.

spk_0 One of the reasons that defense is a lot better is book Carter book Carter was very rusty at the start of the year because of the whole situation and him being held out and all that stuff that happened in the all season.

spk_0 Like guys book Carter was the best player on defense again Tennessee's whatever misses it be state he didn't have the pick six or anything like that he should have a force one that he got for a touchdown but I'm talking about just on play to play he was the most consistently elite defender Tennessee had in that game go back and look at his tape.

spk_0 I think they gave him a 90.6 score I think something like that we're like a me against Mrs. Ibe State book Carter honestly was the best player on Tennessee's team in their win over Mrs. Ibe State and it may not have been particularly close.

spk_0 I didn't even think about that at the time because you know when I talked about torchbearers and things like that I'm pretty sure I didn't name book Carter was just kind of crazy but you know honestly book Carter was when you actually break everything down book Carter was the best player in that game far away even better than area Carter he was just he wasn't making the big plays and that was the thing that held him back that him getting better which helps in a secondary tie red and no longer not making as many freshmen mistakes and Jackson boy adding depth all may Tennessee play better.

spk_0 Well what's happening this week Draman McCoy is expected back Dave and Hobbes is expected back all of a sudden Tennessee gets another lockdown corner Draman McCoy which make their secondary looks so much better makes like a lot easier for Andre turn team and you just root because the safeties on this team are not athletic they're not good however they are smart well turn team is for

spk_0 the group is getting smart but he's got some developing to do but the point is turn team can just play smart ball and be in the right position with Draman McCoy and Colton hood on either side because now they can play on islands and he can always got to do his read things a little bit better and he reads things well as it is so that's all he has to do is athleticism won't be as important so the secondary gets very early to David Hobbes comes back this rotation gets incredible so I'll tell you this right now last year will be on their mind but they're also getting healthy and the games in Knoxville all those reasons are why Tennessee is going to be a lot more important than the game.

spk_0 I see and yes I say it again think on it will not get upset by Arkansas or is it not in danger the way they were last year there are too many things working in their favor even with the concern of Patrino and I do think the Arkansas coaching turmoil does help them more than it hurts them I will say that but I'm being honest with you guys I genuinely think Tennessee should be happy about the situation there they are Derek you have a good point hearing Carter honestly

spk_0 has been a close to disappointment you that is true he has particularly in coverage but I think he found his rhythm against Mississippi State that dude hit a new stride against Mississippi State he was everywhere and I think taking that into account if he continues to develop in that way Tennessee all of a sudden becomes a much more dangerous thing he's getting more help with rotations on the defensive line who is not as tired and he's also getting more help on the back end in the secondary if Draman McCoy gets healthy and it's tired Redmond to continue to develop and also boo call.

spk_0 They're going to put journal Neal in on there who won a national championship consensus in 1951 for the AP and coaches.

spk_0 And so it is the first consensus national champion ever from the SEC to win in the AP pool.

spk_0 And the first consensus national champion ever for the AP and coaches, Paul since coaches didn't start to 1950.

spk_0 Even though they lost their bowl game bowl game for exhibition games at the time, but if you factor in bowl games Tennessee would win the 1950 national title and they claimed that one so Neal belongs on their either way and also Tennessee went undefeated in 1938.

spk_0 Then it's number one in a couple of polls in 1939 in 1940 they lost both bowl games, but again bowl games or exhibitions they could claim national titles both years.

spk_0 They don't for 39, but they do for 1940.

spk_0 So they do for 38 40 50 51 all reasonable and of course 98.

spk_0 However, joining them in that corner is going to be Doug Dickie for the 1967 season with Dewey Warren at quarterback.

spk_0 Now, I got a lot of respect for Dewey Warren.

spk_0 I got a lot of respect for Doug Dickie bringing in the slot T formation bringing Tennessee into the modern age.

spk_0 You get a great at Tennessee football. He had a great run.

spk_0 Tennessee winning the SEC title in 1967 and 1969 finishing in the top 10 in 1965 him leaving bill battle with a ton of talents.

spk_0 So they still finish at the top five in 1970 going 11 and one and then going 10 and two in 71 and 72 with conjures hollow way in 72 when they did that.

spk_0 I got a lot of respect for what Doug Dickie built and that bill battle continued early in this tenure.

spk_0 That 67 national championship is a joke.

spk_0 It's a total joke. Tennessee should stop claiming it. It's embarrassing.

spk_0 Okay, fair enough. UCLA for their part

spk_0 They tied Oregon State late in the year.

spk_0 But then they got to number one on November 18th and they lost to USC 21 to 20 in one of the most legendary football games of all time.

spk_0 OJ Simpson had his high-speed moment that year. I believe I believe that was your OJ won the high-speed.

spk_0 He had a six four yard touchdown run and he won the high-speed later that year.

spk_0 I believe it was 67 when he won the high-speed.

spk_0 No, 68, 68. He was a high-speed candidate in 67.

spk_0 But OJ had a huge run. That's how USC beat UCLA.

spk_0 USC who had lost at Oregon State the week before jumped up to number one.

spk_0 Now Tennessee was number two at the end of the season in both polls.

spk_0 They were number two in pretty much every other major pull.

spk_0 But the Lichtenhouspoll had them at number one.

spk_0 This random pull, the Lichtenhouspoll had them at number one.

spk_0 Even though in the bowl game they lost to Oklahoma in the orange bowl 26 to 24.

spk_0 And during this time by the way, you were trying in your bowl game because many of the selectors were starting to rate teams after the bowl game.

spk_0 So they lost their bowl game to number three Oklahoma who also had one loss.

spk_0 And which was to Texas 9 to 7.

spk_0 And they still claim a national title despite going 9 into that is some Alabama type stuff.

spk_0 I don't care about margin of victory.

spk_0 I don't care about projections.

spk_0 More importantly, and this is a big thing.

spk_0 Schedule strength is not just your quality wins.

spk_0 Your big games are your good losses.

spk_0 It's the conglomerate, okay?

spk_0 How good are the mid-tier teams you play?

spk_0 Because the more of those mid-tier teams you play,

spk_0 week to week the tougher your schedule gets.

spk_0 That has to factor into schedule strength, okay?

spk_0 I've always said this.

spk_0 I would rather play.

spk_0 It's easier to play two top five teams

spk_0 and then 10 garbage teams.

spk_0 Then it is to play six top 25 teams,

spk_0 none of whom are in the top five

spk_0 and then six garbage teams.

spk_0 It is and that's how I ring it.

spk_0 So I actually go by the record of your opponents

spk_0 and the record of your opponents opponents.

spk_0 That's how schedule strength should go into a count.

spk_0 When you take an account schedule strength,

spk_0 Oklahoma still deserves to be number one.

spk_0 They still deserve to be number one.

spk_0 They have multiple quality wins.

spk_0 Texas A&M's number two.

spk_0 Texas A&M has had three straight power five wins.

spk_0 Texas A&M's clearly number two.

spk_0 Miami's number three.

spk_0 Ohio State's number four, Ole Miss is number five.

spk_0 Indiana, we gotta give them respect, man.

spk_0 The number six, they've actually been a quality team this year.

spk_0 Alabama's number seven.

spk_0 They have one loss, but they played

spk_0 a brutal schedule to this point.

spk_0 Illinois, another one loss team.

spk_0 Number eight, I did they got blown up by Indiana.

spk_0 I don't factor in margin of victory.

spk_0 I factor in body of work in Indiana.

spk_0 And Illinois has one loss to Indiana,

spk_0 but they beat in USC.

spk_0 If you look at their schedule strength, it's there.

spk_0 And the number nine and number 10 are Texas Tech and Oregon.

spk_0 Undefeated teams, deserve to be the top 10.

spk_0 Schedule strength needs to be higher for both of them.

spk_0 Texas has beaten Utah and Houston, which do count,

spk_0 but they gotta do a little bit more.

spk_0 Now other undefeated teams, so I left off this list.

spk_0 BYU, Missouri, Georgia Tech,

spk_0 UNLV, Memphis, Navy, North Texas.

spk_0 The three group of five teams, the four group of five teams,

spk_0 and then three power four teams.

spk_0 Those of all played terrible, terrible schedules.

spk_0 That's why I left them off the list.

spk_0 Schedule strength is starting to matter more.

spk_0 And that's just how it goes.
